Overview

The Venturist is a semester-long program/team, where student writers have the opportunity to publish  articles and deep dives on startups and industries of their choice. Alongside mentorship and one-to-one writing support, writers will pick up skills on identifying tech/venture capital trends, interviewing founders, and finding their writer’s voice.

What to expect

Students will finish 1+ full length article and gain opportunities to work on other bite-sized content.

  • A strong interest in writing and content creation
  • Ability to clearly articulate ideas in writing
  • Curiosity for tech, startups, and venture capital – no additional experience needed!

Curriculum

All writers will publish at least one full length article (500+ words) centered on an industry deep-dive or develop a personal startup board. These projects are designed to build your analytical writing skills, deepen your understanding of various industries. The work you produce will contribute to SVS’s biweekly VC newsletter, providing real-world applications for your skills.

  1. Written application: three short-answer questions and your resume
  2. Interview: A follow-up interview for selected applicants.

Venturist FAQs

What can I gain out of the program?

There are several.Participants who excel may receive an offer for an automatic second-round interview with the VTeam. Additionally, students will gain valuable experience in writing and research, expand their professional network within the venture capital industry, and build a strong foundation for future opportunities in VC, startups, or other related fields. The program also allows for publication opportunities in SVS’s biweekly VC newsletter, giving your work visibility among industry professionals.

What's the time commitment like?

Expect a 5-10 hour weekly commitment.This includes weekly 1-hour meetings, workshops, and time dedicated to individual assignments like writing articles, conducting research, and building your startup board. Participants are expected to engage fully with the program, as the skills and insights gained are cumulative and build upon each session.

The Venturist or VTeam?

Depends on your time availability & interests.
VTeam is a time intensive program that aims to cover a wider range of topics within VC/Startup/Tech in a short amount of time, and is suitable for students who want to explore their different interests within those industries.
The Venturist can be an excellent precursor to VTeam or be a good standalone option for those that love to write. Students that excel in The Venturist can expect an automatic push to second round for VTeam if they apply!
